Batman Beyond: Return of The Joker
by

As a fan of the Batman franchise, and film scores, this was always on my wish list. For a while, the only Animated Bat scores which were available were Mask of the Phantasm, Batman Beyond and Return of The Joker.
I have only ever seen the film once, and it is very good.
I was particularly fond of the opening/closing titles, which are mix of elements of the Batman Beyond theme, and a *hint* of the Shirley Walker Batman: The Animated Series theme. These short hints also exist in Tracks 2 and 12, and are a welcome nod to the work of Shirley Walker.
I'm not too much of a fan of the techno-oriented parts of the score, of which there is a considerable amount.
This is balanced though by the aforementioned cues, as well as Kris Carter's own, more traditional Batman theme in Track 7: A trap for Tim, and Track 8: Joker Family Portrait, a nod to Shirley Walker's Joker themes.
Owning this score was less important to me upon release of a good chunk of Shirley Walker material from La La Land Records, however, it has a welcome place in my Bat score collection.
If you are not really a fan of techno-music, I guess the decision comes down to if you are prepared to pay for this reasonably rare score *just for hints* of the Walker Bat theme.

The Tomorrow Knight Delivers

While I love the Batman Beyond television series I always felt that the music for that show took a turn for the worse by using Techno/Rock as a soundtrack. With this first Batman beyond full length feature that has (Finally) been changed. The soundtrack for Return of the Joker still has the Techno and Rock elements but Kristopher Carter merges them with traditional symphonic work. The result is an amazing piece of work. The Main title starts out deceptively as it begins with a slow beat and electronic sounds. Suddenly it builds up tension only to explode with the (new) symphonic Batman Beyond theme. It ends with a combination of rock and symphonic work. After hearing that you know your in for something special. Highly recommended and a MUST have for Batman fans.
