Reviews
If only this soundtrack was as enticing as Liv Tyler.
by
Victor Field (December 28, 2003)
As entertaining as "One Night At McCool's" was, the album is less worthy of praise because a) only three tracks out of 12 work with me enough to listen to again, and b) Marc Shaiman's score is poorly served by the lineup (but this is a song album, what did we expect?). Fortunately one of the two cues that make up his 5:25 suite include the most memorable one in the movie, the music heard for the montage with the characters verging on the house where the climax takes place. Followed by yet another demonstration of Shaiman's gift for writing sweetly melodic music, it does at least bring the CD to a positive close. As for the songs, apart from the Village People's "YMCA" (put to startling use in said climax) and Johnny Cash's "Wanted Man".... bleh. However, with titles like "Velvet," "Sexy Body" and "So Hot," you can't accuse music supervisor Peter Afterman of ignoring the presence of Liv Tyler.
