The Meaning Of Epic Music
by
Godwin Borg (June 17, 2004)
When MIKLÓS RÓZSA wrote the score to EL CID he redimensioned the meaning of the word EPIC music. Not only did the sadly missed maestro put all his talent and skill behind his score-writing but he also put perhaps the most important things of all; his passion and his love! 2 factors that unfortunately lack in many of today's scores. If you have watched the film at least once you can fullly relive it by just shutting your eyes and let this gorgoeus score transport you back to the days of Rodrigo Diaz De Bivar (a.k.a. EL CID) and his epic saga. The action cues are typically uptempo RÓZSA, the love theme of Rodrigo and Donna Jimena is pure aural beauty; melodic and melancholic, the way only RÓZSA could write and the main theme is drama at it's highest peak. Definitely one of the most beautiful main themes ever! Just for the main titles this disc is already worth owning, and the rest of the score is just as beautiful. A must have for all the lovers of classical film-music.
