My Personal Favorite
by filmfactsman (October 18, 2003)
This was the first film score that made me aware of music playing an important role in movies. When I saw the film in 1966, I was still in grade school but I loved the Jerry Goldsmith score as well as the film. I remember coming out of the theater emotionally spent and not quite sure why the movie affected me as I hadn't experienced before. Later, I found myself humming the different pieces of the score and I began to realize that part of what moved me was the wonderful, lilting Goldsmith music. I became a film music buff not too long afterwards, making note of the composer on every film that I saw from then on, especially Goldsmith, Elmer Bernstien, Alex North, Ernest Gold, Bernard Herrmann, etc.
