Exciting, melodic & underrated
by a soundtrack collector (February 17, 2004)
Goldsmith's score to Ransom (the Sean Connery terrorist hijack movie) is just that: exciting, extremely melodic and, I think, underrated. The only thing that mars it is poor quality sound - no better and possibly worse than the vinyl LP this CD replaced! Better sound would have raised the rating to 4 stars.

The first reviewer states: "The whole concept of the music is to catch the drama of the father whose son is kidnapped and the anxiety and agony of the attempt to save him." but I think he/she has confused the movie with the Mel Gibson film of the 1990s.

Underated Goldsmith
by a soundtrack collector (July 2, 2003)
Many film music fans consider this among the worst of Goldsmith but i strongly disagree.
This is a very dynamic score with one of the best sequence cues i've ever heard from Jerry, "SKYCHASER".
The whole concept of the music is to catch the drama of the father whose son is kidnapped and the anxiety and agony of the attempt to save him.
This is for sure a very functional score and for those who have only heard the cd, i suggest that either you buy an LP copy with far superior sound quality and also see the movie so as to get the impact of the score..
