Inconspicuous sea urchin masterpiece

Un Oursin Dans La Poche is the fifth of eight scores Vladimir Cosma composed for director Pascal Thomas. All these scores were hard to find at the times of the films' releases, being either released only on 45rpms or not at all. The reason for this escapes me - I find them all being full of original ideas and showing Cosma's great potential in a way only few of his scores do. Hence, the 18th volume of Cosma Cinéma Collection, which contains music from all the eight films, is maybe my most often played Cosma CD.
The score for 1977 movie Un Oursin Dans La Poche is represented in four tracks. The first two, "Les souliers vernis" and "Les automates", are songs sung by Georges Tabet, the former using the same melody as the two remaining tracks, "Le Chef de service" and "Un oursin dans la poche", which are purely instrumental. The instrumentation in the whole score is superb - the flutes, the bass, the harpsichord, the piano, the strings and all the other instruments are creating nice and breezy mood, which echoes in the listener's head for hours after listening to these four tracks, although they are altogether only ten minutes long. If only there was more released score from the movie! Otherwise, there is nothing to complain about this great "Sea Urchin In The Pocket" score.
