A Dark & Beautiful Animated Movie Soundtrack
by
Lord Of The Rush (November 24, 2007)
Being one of the hardest to find soundtracks only officially released on LP, any who own a copy should definitely feel special and treat it like treasure. They also know how much fun it is to listen to the music, especially if they grew up watching the animated movie over and over again. The Greatest Adventure has become a classic song with absolutely flawless poetry in the words of the music, but actually hearing it in full stereo and original quality is a whole other rare enjoyment. The song is being sung to you by Glenn Yarbrough himself as you watch the Hobbit movie begin all over again and the images of the opening credits return instantly, bringing you back to Bilbo's hole where you visited as a kid. So easy to sing along to, as is all the other songs on the soundtrack. Here is the tracklist to the music-only LP version of the Hobbit, in the order they were heard in the movie:

1 - The Greatest Adventure
2 - That's What Bilbo Baggins Hates / Misty Mountains Cold / The Dwarves Of Yore
3 - In The Valley, Ha Ha
4 - Down, Down To Goblin Town
5 - Gollum's Riddle
6 - Funny Little Things
7 - Roads
8 - Old Fat Spider
9 - Rollin' Down The Hole
10 - Under The Mountain
11 - In The Valley (Reprise)
12 - Death Of Thorin (Roads Instrumental)
13 - The Journey Home (Greatest Adventure Instrumental)

Plenty of score music is included along with all of the songs and the original Dwarves Of Yore narration by Gandalf ends Track 2 perfectly. Misty Mountains Cold is the most memorable of the darker pieces of music from the film, giving you the exact same feeling you have when hearing it with the Lonely Mountain's ghostly animation. Down, Down To Goblin Town is plenty loud and sung like thunder & lightning with funny words - "You Go My Lad! Ho, Ho My Lad!" as is Funny Little Things and Rollin' Down The Hole. Yet Roads stands out to be just as beautiful if not more than The Greatest Adventure and Gollum's Riddle is an eerie listen from beginning to end. The Hobbit soundtrack is like a combination of words that make you laugh and music that moves you completely, which makes it a perfect soundtrack for a television cartoon movie. Along with two short but truly enchanting instrumentals and Old Fat Spider, a song that wasn't even used in the movie, everything from the film is remembered, creating just the right Hobbit listening experience. The Hobbit's animated sequel The Return Of The King has a soundtrack just as memorable and well-written, but unfortunately hasn't been released in any format, yet can be heard without sound effect interruption throughout the movie itself. All of the music from both films was composed by Maury Laws and all words were written by Jules Bass, both who we can all be thankful for these timeless unforgettable tunes. Anybody who has grown up with The Hobbit doesn't even need the real soundtrack to hear it all over again. They can just play it back whenever they want all in their own heads.
