Isham's first pairing with Alan Rudolph
by a soundtrack collector
(March 21, 2006)
It's nice looking back on some of Mark Isham's early works and seeing his growth, and the originality and shape of his scores. Never Cry Wolf, The Hitcher, The Beast, etc. He took a pretty good step up with this score, which is a little more traditional, but not nearly as conservative as his later works. The scope of this film's strange story seemed to fit Mark's Jazzy sound very well, and on screen he lived up to the job. The album to me wasn't quite as listenable on it's own though as Mark's next work with Rudolph, and still one of his most brilliant scores to date: The Moderns.
