Bacharach does the business!
Burt Bacharach wrote a number of scores for films in the 60s and rightly, IMO, won an Academy Award in 1969 for 'Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid. 'Casino Royale (1967) featured the stunning 'The Look of Love' performed by Dusty Springfield with lyrics by Hal David. How that didn't win an Oscar for best song is beyond me(it was won by 'If I could talk to the Animals' from Dr.Dolittle that year!).

Anyway, Bacharach returned in 2000 with this lovely score. I haven't seen the film but trust me,you don't need to to enjoy this CD. Track after track of glorious pop/jazz/lounge arrangements of Bacharach's wonderful melodies. Throw in songs by Dionne Warwick and Vanessa Williams, again with lyrics by Hal David, and you have a 39 minute album that I always have a good time listening to.

Some film music fans look down on Bacharach and see his music as elevator musak. That is nonsense in my humble opinion. Bacharach may not have scored that many movies but those that he has done are beautifully crafted and always an entertaining listen.

Nice one, Burt

GROOVY!
I am a fan a Vanessa Williams and when I saw that this soundtrack featured both her and Dionne I was into it and I thought both did an excellent job with their songs. I had always thought Bachrach could do wonders with Vanessa's voice and he did and the songs and other selections were great. I recommend buying this cd because it is like I said in the title GROOVY!

a great soundtrack
The soundtrack to ISN'T SHE GREAT is a must-own for fans of Burt Bacharach as well as fans of the film (which is also available on DVD).

The main tune in the film - "On My Way" - is quite affecting and pretty much sums up the mood of the film. It's sung with verve and attitude by Bacharach veteran Dionne Warwick, and is carried in segments throughout the film.

The other main ballad in the film is "Open Your Heart", sung over the end-credits by Vanessa Williams. In the film, the melody is heard as the main love theme for Jacqueline Susann and her husband Irving.

Bacharach uses snatches of the same melodies repeatedly in many of the selections here; only "Mass Love" shows some of the spunk and class that Bacharach and Hal David are famous for.

All-in-all, a fine recording to remember a fantastic, sadly-neglected film.
