Finally a Myers album but falls short by Brandon Moore (July 20, 2001)
Milan has recently released an album compilation of themes by the late British composer Stanley Myers. The composer is so rarely represented on CD and I was highly anticipating this album. Unfortunately the album falls short. Myers certainly deserved better than this. There are a few weakneses of the compilation. The album is in one of those slim cases like the latest Close Encounters soundtrack, the brief comment from director Nicolas Roeg (who Myers collaborated with on Eureka, The Witches, and Cold Heaven) can barely be read, and worse it seems that some of the tracks are taken from LP sources! This is being really picky, I know, but when you have hardly any recordings from a very talented film composer on compact disc you want to get it right with packaging and not continue to have his work dissapear without giving us more insight on the the composer, the scores and films. I will give credit to Milan for including the interview track which does gives us some glimpse of Myers. It would have been nice to have seen a cut from The Witches on this disc but hopefully we will be treated to an album one of these days. Overall the music is what's important and I recommend you take a listen to the work of this talented and greatly missed composer.
