The Sleaziest Soundtrack That I Own!
by
filmfactsman (April 17, 2006)
A very rare soundtrack LP, SINGLE ROOM FURNISHED (1968) was Jayne Mansfield's sleazy last movie. Three stories in one: Johnie (Jayne Mansfield) is married, but her husband deserts her when she becomes pregnant. She changes her name to Mae and takes a job as a waitress. She falls in love, but her fiancé leaves her just as they're about to get married. So Mae changes her name again to Eileen and becomes a prostitute. The best (sleaziest) track is the title music "Blues in Brownstone" repeated twice (!) as: "Blues in Brownstone - Traveling" and "Blues in Brownstone - Trumpet Blues". Two great Bossa Nova numbers are also highlighted: "Eileen Bossa Nova" and "Bossa Nova Coda" (both misspelled on the back cover--naturally!) The album's showstopper is "Please Don't Go Away Darling" by Jack Irwin & The Paris Sisters (remember them?), a catchy little number that sounds like it was recorded in 1958--not 1968! The film was released for about two days in a couple of drive-ins in '68. It's now available on various sleazefest DVD labels. By all means, check out the DVD and get word to Mike Curb ("The Wild Angels", "The Trip") about getting a CD release of this classic stinker!

* for taste. ***** for sleaze!
