Genuine, Beautiful, Sincere Music!
by
Godwin Borg (June 9, 2005)
When I first heard this score it sent shivers down my spine and now, 3 years after it keeps on giving me goose bumps just like the first time, very few scores manage to have such a long-lasting effect on me. There are many composers who recycle their material (and other's) but this surely is not the case with Christopher Young; who always gives us fresh, original material that is always a pleasure to listen to. This is Christopher Young's first (and only) Celtic score as far as I know. Lasse Hallström wanted the score to sound this way and that's what Dr. Young gave him / us, a really beautiful, celtic-sounding score, which is far from the usual "I've heard this jig somewhere " or the half hearted Celtic wannabe tunes we are so overfed with. This is a genuine listening experience even on it’s own, it’s a perfect album and is extremely powerful in the film context, a thing which can only be praised! You will memorise the themes and never forget them I assure you. The film's visuals are stunning (all Lasse Hallström films are wonderful) so I would suggest also watching the film, just in case you missed out on this one. The score like the film is a blend of dramatic and sweet moments, absolutely stunning. Buy them both now. You won’t regret it. Bravo Maestro Young! Bravo Mr. Hallström!

Lasse Hallström’s new film “An Unfinished Life” has also been scored by Dr. Young, it will hit the screens soon. Watch out!
