Although the best of this score is performed as a symphonic suite elsewhere, this CD is still a worthwhile listening experience despite the sound quality lacking the dynamics of today's technology. Williams trademark style is evident throughout - big emotional themes, in suitable Americana flavour (nodding to Aaron Copland.)
One motif in particular is a ghost of Williams future "Superman The Movie" track "Leaving Home", with its wide harmonies and lush instrumentation. Williams also makes use of a menacing harmonica and the occasional bass guitar. This is a work produced during John William's golden period, expressive and inventive.
