sounds and images by george mosko (December 23, 2005)
Oldboy, in my opinion, was one of the best films of the year.Whoever saw this film at the movies, i'm sure that the music (among others), got stucked on his/her mind. This soundtrack is very special. You can listen to the violins and their big family that brings images of waves in your memory.Feel the traveling trompets of passion and desire.See the electronic sounds coming out of your speakers as they start playing with your senses.Let the beats drive into the magic road of fantasy.Think of J.Barry teaching C.Armstrong,F.Glass on studio with D.Arnold and M.Nyman.Who said that only Korean directors are years ahead from their American collegues?I personally can say the same about the composers too and Jo Yeong-Wook is the proof.Maybe this is too much and i'm just exaggerating, but this kind of music is beyond stars, planets or anything (maybe it really is beyond the stars).A masterpiece.
