Boring,
by Alex (February 27, 2007)
While John Carpenter is one of the Great Horror Filmmakers in my eye, his skills as a composer, in all honestly, have never really impressed me. While I really enjoyed ‘In the Mouth of Madness” for its horror-film perks (strong Lovecraftian atmosphere, brisk pace, great creature fx) I’ll be blunt when I say the score is entirely boring through and through. Well, not entirely. The opening track is a blast, but beyond that the music is all underscore. Being entirely synthesized (though a guitar may come into play here and there) it sounds dated, boring and uninspired. There is no theme or motif present, just droning synth stuff. Sorry folks, but this is an entirely forgettable effort.
