Wow! Great work from Folk,
by
Alex (July 2, 2007)
Robert Folk is a hugely talented composer who, more often than not, gets stuck with Hollywood's worst of stinkers. I haven't seen "Lawnmower Man 2", but judging byit's placement on IMDB"s Bottom 250 Films Ever Made, I don't think I'll be rushing out to grab a copy any time soon. But the score is great! Losts of superior action writing, but the main theme is what makes the score great: First heard in "The City", it's a truly rousing piece of music, with dynamic percussion, strings and brass. "Jobe's Theme" is a melodic retreat from the action music, and it's lovely, with crisp woodwinds and soaring strings. But the best cue on this CD is unquestionably the last track, "Finale", which is just STUNNING!!! It brings together both Jobe's Theme and the central theme in a grand, explosive fashion. It's just wonderful, dynamic stuff, complex both in writing and orchestration, and makes for a superb ending to a thoroughly satisfying album.
A great score for an apparently not-so-great film. Hunt this one down, it's well worth it if you love big, bold symphonic scoring. The London Symphonia plays with dynamic gusto.
