why did they change the soundtrack on video releases?

in the movie 'When you and I were 17' song by Gus Kahn, was a running theme and played throughout the movie in various forms, but in the dvd and vhs releases that song was deleted in every form. does anyone know why? i have been trying for years to get this answered. i copied the movie off of A & E about 6 years ago with the original soundtrack, but on the video releases it states that the soundtrack has been changed. thank you all.

You can take it to the bank that the movie soundtrack song was not included in the VHS and DVD releases because an agreement could not be reached as to monetary rights for the song by Gus Kahn.
That is often a stumbling block when it comes to trying to decide how much, if any, of the movie's revenue should go to the singer and his record label.

this is what prevented HEAVY METAL from being released on video for years - music was also changed for THE BAD LIEUTENANT
