WHO KNOWS WHY........
Does anyone know anything about the reason for the commissioning of Green to compose this score? Even though he had a good number of other fine scores to his credit, the fact that he had never composed an EPIC score, and as it turned out a true tone poem, is puzzling to me.
Since MGM had a great deal at stake in the production of this saga, it seems curious to me that they would have chosen a composer who would be making his first foray into the league of major symphonic film music.
I can only add......Thank God they did!
I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who has any "dish" on this score.
