Futureworld - worth picking up?

Hello,

as this title is about to end its sale period, I would like to know if anyone of you who owns it could characterize the music and/or liken it to other well-known scores. I'd just like to get an idea what to expect should I decide to pick it up.

Thanks in advance,

Urs

I absolutely recommend it. It's more symphonic and more dramatic than WESTWORLD. The following text, taken from Douglass Fake's description featured at INTRADA may help you:

"Karlin expands greatly on concept of first movie, adds full orchestra to his bag of tricks. Interesting use of 17th century-ish melodic idea juxtaposed with harsher contemporary idiom. Melody unwinds, intricate percussion, electronic material weaves within. Highlight: lengthy "Chase" finds snippet of main theme forming partnership with pulsating rhythm. No matter how busy sequence gets, Karlin keeps melodic fragment in focus. Violins chop at it, French horns take a swing at it, so forth. Another idea begs attention: Karlin has muted brass chords linger throughout score, allows secondary thematic idea to thrive. In fact, it shares spotlight with main theme throughout. Album was personally assembled by composer - one of the last things he did - with variety of surviving tape sources from multi-track to cassette. Most (not all) cues are in stereo, all sound quite good under circumstances. CD also offers suite (12:42) of highlights from original WESTWORLD score for comparison. Leaner writing, fanciful orchestrations illuminate this one. Impressive addition to Reel Music Down Under catalog. Detailed liner notes by composer chronicle music with considerable depth, dramatic graphics frame it with class. Fred Karlin conducts. Bullseye!"

By the way, you can still find it at INTRADA.

Thanks for your response, Angel. Of course, eventually I did order. With the current Euro-Dollar exchange rate, one's more willing to take risks... ;-)

Although it seems I'm a bit late with my comments I just wanted to echo the earlier recommendation.

I love Karlin's FUTUREWORLD theme. I also like the WESTWORLD suite - it doesn't have the source cues for WESTWORLD but I can do without these!
