Why won't they release this soundtrack!?

This one just kills me.

Condorman was one of my favorite movies growing up--the car chases, the boat chases,
the MUSIC! It features an incredible score by an increible composer, Henry Mancini, and
yet has never been released! Sorry, I know there's really nothing that can be done
about it, but I still had to vent my frustrations. I have taken to sending monthly emails
to Varese Sarabande, asking (okay, begging) them to release it in the their CD Club.

Who knows, maybe I'll get luck.

Condorman was produced by Walt Disney, a company which is not interested to license their scores to other companies. It´s not Varese´s fault they have no chance to release it.

I'm afraid CONDORMAN was a Walt Disney Production. Disney is absolutely overprotective with all its movies and is not usual to see their soundtracks released by no other than DISNEY RECORDS.

However, Varèse Sarabande has released some Disney productions in the past. Who knows... May be they begin negotiations one of these days...

Cross your fingers!

Yes, this was a few years ago and they released many of the titles with the start of the movie (The Black Cauldron). Roger Feigelson from Intrada (which also released some Disney-scores) said that this has changed and Disney is not longer willing to license their scores or movies (Anchor Bay released DVDs of The Black Hole and others) to a non-Disney company.

I don't think I was blaming Varese for the lack of a release, simply hoping they might be able to release it in the future.

Oddly enough, The Black Cauldron was also one of my favorite movies as a child and I was very pleased when I found the VS release of the Bernstein score.

It's really too bad about Disney not licensing out any more of their music, especially since the chances of them releasing a score from an early 80's movie are pretty slim. Oh well, I'll just keep dreaming.

You´re so right. Disney has so many interesting things in their catalogue from such composers as Maurice Jarre, Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner (from a time he was still a good composer), Georges Delerue, Elmer Bernstein, John Barry, Stanley Myers, William Alwyn and their on studio composers such as Paul J. Smith (20000 Leagues Under the Sea!) or Oliver Wallace.

Absoultely, 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, another great Disney score--I hadn't even thought about that one! I never knew that Disney had used all of those composers, thanks for that little tid-bit!

I also enjoyed your little shot at Horner, I take it you're not a big fan of his newer stuff?

No, I was never a big fan of him, but I do like some of his early scores such as Krull, Wolfen or Something Wicked This Way Comes (one of his Disney scores, he replaced Georges Delerue on this film). But today I think he is one of the most boring composers around. IMO of course.

As for 20000 Leagues: There was even CD planned of this, but in the last minute Disney decided against it!

I can't believe 20,000 was planned for release and then abandoned! It's even worse knowing that. I'm assuming that Disney never released Something Wicked, but it still somehow managed to find its way onto a bootleg. Do you know if the bootleg is any good? I've never seen the movie, but I did enjoy the book.

I do have my own little bootleg of Condorman that I made from my DVD. It's got all of the music from the film, but there's still all of the dialogue and sound effects as well (which can be fun). I guess it will have to hold me over until/when/if Disney ever decides to release it officially.

And then I'll die a happy man.

I have heard this private release of Something but the sound quality isn´t very good. The score is nice, but not great. The main theme is fine and it has some good choral pieces. And you can find a re-recorded suite of Delerue´s rejected score on one of the London Sessions-CDs from Varese.

BTW: I like Bradbury´s novel. The film isn´t great. The style is very uneven, but it´s entertaining and features a great performance by Jonathan Pryce as Dark.

I really cant understand, that they havent released it when the movie came out. ( Like "The Black Hole" )

One problem was, that many of the sci-fi / real movies flopped then. Here in Germany, they had tons of unsold "Black Hole" soundtracks, that were sold for almost nothing.

I dont like Mancini usually, but this is one of the best soundtracks, especially the opening title. ( very unusual for Mancini, sounds like a mixture of Rosenman, Williams and Goldsmith )

I hope Disney will release it one day or give Varese the chance.
Now they have re-released the movie on DVD, why not release the soundtrack also ?

( They have released the War Cartoons on DVD, Donald Duck vs.
Hitler, and always said before, that they will NEVER release it. So there is hope. )
