The Gold CD Edition

Has anybody a clue, why this 1997 gold CD edition was so expensive (it costed a heavy $ 50.00 when it came out, gold disc and limited to 2000 items)? It does not feature any profound liner notes (Body Heat - the original recording - for example contains extensive notes by Royal S. Brown about each track). But the booklet of the Frances CD features only one page with a few general remarks about Barry's accomplishments for his score (no author's name given) and on page two we find a few words by the director. There's no in depth analysis of the tracks the way our specialised labels do it these days.

I love the music on the disc very much. The sound is superb. But considering the rest of the production values, this expensive release disappoints me bit. They even forgot to give JB's credit on the front cover,

"Music composed and conducted by ...",

...just the label, nr. and its titel. And I won't make any further remarks about the print quality of the inserts - that was never a strength of Lasher's companies - even though, I'm not sure, he really is behind this release, just know he did the LP back in the 80s.

Hopefully there will be a chance that someone will do a rerelease? An expanded one perhaps? With great notes, too.

Too true, there does seem to be something lacking in this "Gold Disc" release. I'm not sure I agree with you about the sound quality ... I have many better recordings in my collection.

I dare say that, on the back of the releases of "Body Heat" and "High Road To China" (this latter being far better than its flat sounding LP release), the label thought they were on a winner. What promotes sales better than making it a "limited edition" ... it's all in the marketing!
