Born in St. Petersburg, Russia on October 29, 1901, Daniele Amfitheatrof was the son of a popular writer. After Daniele's father was exiled from Russia, the family moved to Italy, where Amfitheatrof studied in Rome under Ottorino Respighi. Amfitheatrof became a well-known conductor throughout Italy, and was hired as Associate Conductor of the Minneapolis Symphony Orchestra in 1937.

His first film music work came after he signed a contract with M-G-M, and in 1944 he became an American citizen. Amfitheatrof worked for many studios, and some of his scores were for Another Part of the Forest, The Beginning Or The End, Calling Dr. Gillespie, Cry Havoc, The Damned Don\'t Cry, Guest Wife, Heller In Pink Tights, I'll Be Seeing You, Lassie Come Home, Letter From An Unknown Woman, Major Dundee, The Naked Jungle, Omar Khayyam, O. S. S., Salome, The Senator Was Indiscreet, Singapore, Spanish Affair, and You Gotta Stay Happy.

His concert works include "American Panorama" and "Poem Of The Sea".
He eventually moved back to Italy, and passed away on June 7, 1983.
