Guido & Maurizio de Angelis' Savana Violenta
4-Nov-2018 - Quartet Records and Gruppo Sugar presents an expanded and remastered CD of Savana Violenta with music by Guido and Maurizio de Angelis. Based on originally shot material and outtakes from Ultime Grida Dalla Savana, this follow-up is a more light-hearted and less-focused film that discusses even more facets of the relationship between humans and animals - with a few shocking examples thrown in for good measure. Guido and Maurizio de Angelis follow mondo traditions by shocking visuals with innocent-sounding tunes. Their most memorable contribution is “Let's Sing a Song”, an innocent children’s tune with lyricist Susan Duncan Smith providing a kindergarten's worth of fun.

Anne-Kathrin Dern's The Jade Pendant
2-Nov-2018 - MovieScore Media has released The Jade Pendant, their first score by the talented composer Anne-Kathrin Dern. The film tells a tragic love story set against the lynching of 18 Chinese immigrants in Los Angeles, in 1871. Based on true events, the characters of The Jade Pendant find themselves in a conflict raging between Asian and American values, a central concept that is reflected in the score that was. As composer Anne-Kathrin Dern explains, a symphonic approach was the only way to score such a moving story. “The Jade Pendant is a score that relies heavily on traditional film scoring values: lyrical themes and sweeping orchestrations. These are paired with both traditional Chinese influences and Americana to represent the immigrants in the New World".

Jeff Beal's Shock And Awe
2-Aug-2018 - Today Music, Film Recordings and Varèse Sarabande have released Shock And Awe digitally and on CD with the original score by Jeff Beal. “Legendary director Rob Reiner used archival footage of George W. Bush, Colin Powell, and Donald Rumsfeld, to chilling effect, much like Oliver Stone did in JFK,” said Beal, who was greatly influenced by John Williams’ work on the aforementioned JFK. In 2003, the White House administration made a case for the invasion of Iraq. The facts didn’t add up, and only one team of journalists got the story right. Shock and Awe is the true story of these journalists, and what it is like to hunt for the truth when the stakes are life, death, and American democracy.

Nino Rota's Il Gattopardo
7-May-2018 - Quartet Records and Gruppo Sugar proudly present a 2-CD set featuring for the first time the complete original score by Nino Rota (La Dolce Vita, Otto e Mezzo, Amarcord, The Abdication) for Luchino Visconti’s masterpiece Il Gattopardo (The Leopard), starring Burt Lancaster, Alain Delon, Claudia Cardinale and a young Terence Hill. At Visconti’s request, Rota based much of his Leopard score on a symphony he had composed in the ’40s but which wasn’t premiered or published until the ’70s. The music is boldly dramatic and romantic in tone, sometimes calling to mind the spirit of Tchaikovsky. A previously undiscovered waltz by Giuseppe Verdi also figures prominently in the score—in a ball scene where it is surrounded by original Rota dances very much in the style of the period.
