Elmer Bernstein's music for John Wayne
3-May-2006 - The legendary Elmer Bernstein composed some of the most iconic film music of all time, like To Kill A Mockingbird, The Ten Commandments and The Great Escape, but he may be most famous for his westerns. Bernstein, as one of John Wayne’s personal favorite composers, worked on many films with the great film icon. To pay tribute to his friend, Bernstein himself assembled music from five of his scores for John Wayne westerns, including The Duke’s final motion picture, The Shootist. Varèse Sarabande has released now True Grit: Elmer Bernstein with over 75 minutes of music, recorded with the Utah Symphony Orchestra, with Bernstein himself conducting! This is classic film music that embodies the spirit of the American West like no other.
