Alexandre Desplat's Coco Avant Chanel
6-Oct-2009 - Varèse Sarabande has released the score for Coco Avant Chanel(Coco Before Chanel). The story: several years after leaving the orphanage to which her father never returned for her, Gabrielle Chanel finds herself working in a provincial bar both. She's both a seamstress for the performers and a singer, earning the nickname Coco from the song she sings nightly with her sister. A liaison with Baron Balsan gives her an entree into French society and a chance to develop her gift for designing increasingly popular hats. When she falls in love with English businessman Arthur Capel further opportunities open up, though life becomes ever more complicated. In the movie Audrey Tautou stars as legendary fashion designer Coco Chanel in this biopic penned by director Anne Fontaine and screenwriter Camille Fontaine in collaboration with Christopher Hampton. The movie based on the Chanel biography L’Irreguliere (The Nonconformist) by author Edmonde Charles-Roux. The sumptuous and beautifully tailored score for the film was composed by Alexandre Desplat and performed by The London Symphony Orchestra.
