Marcel Barsotti's Pope Joan
12-Dec-2009 - Königskinder Music has released the score for Pope Joan (Die Päpstin), the story of a 9th century woman, Johanna von Ingelheim, of English extraction born in the German city of Ingelheim, who disguises herself as a man and rises through the Vatican ranks. This much anticipated film version of the best-selling novel Pope Joan gets an original score composed by Swiss-born composer Marcel Barsotti. He reunites with the film’s director, Sönke Wortmann, for whom he scored the 2003 feature The Miracle of Bern and the 2006 documentary Deutschland, Ein Sommermärchen. Wortmann took over helming of the film when Volker Schlöndorff left the project. Barsotti’s beautiful and spiritual score is written for orchestra, choir and soloists and is one of the highlights of 2009.
The score is available from Amazon Germany.
