Christopher Young's The Rum Diary
9-Dec-2011 - Johnny Depp’s company Infinitum Nihil has released The Rum Diary through Lakeshore Records. The soundtrack features original music by Christopher Young (Spiderman 3, Drag Me To Hell) with some songs, and a duet performed by Johnny Depp with JJ Holiday. Based on the debut novel by Hunter S. Thompson, The Rum Diary tells the increasingly unhinged story of itinerant journalist Paul Kemp (Johnny Depp). Tiring of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local newspaper, The San Juan Star, run by downtrodden editor Lotterman (Richard Jenkins). Adopting the rum-soaked life of the island, Paul soon becomes obsessed with Chenault (Amber Heard), the wildly attractive Connecticut-born fiancée of Sanderson (Aaron Eckhart). Christopher Young, a former jazz drummer, was influenced by the large jazz bands of the 50s and 60s. "Most of the tracks on the CD were presented as thematic possibilities for the film," said Young. "This gave me a chance to pour out music that has been inside of me all these years."
The score is available from Amazon.com, Amazon UK, Amazon France and Amazon Germany.
