John Debney scores three top ten hits in one weekend
16-Nov-2005 - In a show of productivity, versatility and success, Academy Award nominated composer John Debney has three films in this weekend's box office top ten. At numbers 1, 2 and 9, Chicken Little, Zathura and Dreamer made a combined total of $50,000,000 over the weekend ending November 13, 2005. No other composer in recent memory has accomplished this feat, scoring three of the top ten films in a given weekend.

Debney has been delivering a steady stream of successes this year, including The Pacifier and Sin City. Throughout his career, Debney-scored movies, including blockbusters such as The Passion of the Christ, Elf, Bruce Almighty, The Princess Diaries 1 and 2, and Spy Kids 1 and 2 have made over $3,000,000,000.

Directors often credit Debney with helping to make their movie a success. Mel Gibson said of Debney's "Passion of the Christ" score: "It had to be an extraordinary piece of work, something that helped the images. It had to tell a lot. John made my film 10 times better." Earlier this year, in a speech congratulating Debney for ASCAP's Henry Mancini Lifetime Achievement Award, "Pacifier" director Adam Shankman lavished praise on Debney, thanking him for helping to make his movie funny.

Just wrapping up work on Cheaper by the Dozen 2, Debney will soon score Bryan Barber's prohibition-era musical Idlewild, starring Andre 3000 and Big Boi from OutKast. Also on Debney's upcoming schedule are Barnyard, Yankee Irving and Evan Almighty, and we will see the release of his Lucky 13 next year.

In addition to his film assignments, Debney premiered his The Passion of the Christ Symphony, a concert based on his Oscar-nominated score for the blockbuster film, to cheering audiences in Rome and received a pontifical blessing from the Vatican. He later packed Southern California's Crystal Cathedral for a performance of the concert to benefit the American Red Cross' Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
