And the winner is...
5-Mar-2006 - The winner of the Oscar for Achievement in Music Written for Motion Pictures (Original Score) this year is Brokeback Mountain, with a score by Gustavo Santaolalla. It's the story of two young cowboys in the 1960s, who develop a strong bond that turns to love over the course of a summer in the Wyoming mountains. As they share herding duties in an isolated setting, Ennis and Jack find themselves drawn into a relationship--made impossible by the time and circumstances in which they live--that will color the rest of their lives. The Oscar for Best Original Song went to It's Hard Out Here For A Pimp from Hustle & Flow, with music and lyrics Jordan Houston, Cedric Coleman and Paul Beauregard. It's all about DJay, who is a small-time pimp and drug dealer who dreams of stardom in the world of hip-hop music. Despite the criminal trappings of his day-to-day existence, DJay has an inner determination and a belief in his own talent that lead him to parlay a meeting with an old high school friend into a chance for a better life.
