Chuck Cirino's Bone Eater

<![CDATA[ BSX Records has released Bone Eater, featuring music composed by Chuck Cirino for the 2007 horror film directed by Jim Wynorski. Bone Eater takes place in Sweet Water, Alabama. A greedy land developer is financing the development of a huge resort in the desert nearby. Tensions have flared between the developers and the local Native American tribe, the Kathonahs, over concerns that the resort is being built over the burial ground of their ancestors. The story begins as a construction crew discover a large bone axe while they are digging at night. When they remove the bone axe, they accidentally awaken an ancient Katonah demon spirit known as the Bone Eater and they are swiftly killed. For Bone Eater, Chuck Cirino has unleashed one of his most ambitious scores, a wonderful homage to composers Ennio Morricone and Bernard Herrmann, tipping his hat to Morricone’s work on Spaghetti Westerns and Herrmann’s work on the great Ray Harryhausen fantasy films of the 60’s.

Ennio Morricone's Mio Caro Assassino

<![CDATA[ Digitmovies has released the ninth volume dedicated to the scores by Ennio Morricone for the Giallo genre with this release of the complete full stereo score for the Giallo/Noir movie Mio Caro Assassino (aka My Dear Killer, Sumario Sangriento De La Pequeña Stefania) directed in 1972 by Tonino Valerii. Police commissioner Luca Peretti (Hilton) is investigating about a series of murders which at first seem to have no connection with each other, but which after his meticulous investigations are finally linked by a logical explanation. Behind all this there is the kidnapping and the subsequent killing of a little girl. Peretti discovers motive and killer thanks to the traces (an innocent childish drawing) which had indeed been left by the little victim on the crime scene. This CD is possible thanks to the stereo master tapes of the original recording sessions preserved in very good condition in the C.A.M. archives which gave Digitmovies the chance to realize a complete CD containing every single note recorded for the movie.

Douglas Pipes' Trick 'R Treat

<![CDATA[ La-La Land Records has released the score for Trick 'R Treat. It is said that Halloween is the night when the dead rise to walk among us and other unspeakable things roam free. The rituals of All Hallows Eve were devised to protect us from their evil mischief, and one small town is about to be taught a terrifying lesson that some traditions are best not forgotten. Nothing is what it seems when a suburban couple learns the dangers of blowing out a Jack-o-Lantern before midnight; four women cross paths with a costumed stalker at a local festival; a group of pranksters goes too far and discovers the horrifying truth buried in a local legend; and a cantankerous old hermit is visited by a strange trick-or-treater with a few bones to pick. Costumes and candy, ghouls and goblins, monsters and mayhem... the tricks and treats of Halloween turn deadly as strange creatures of every variety-human and otherwise-try to survive the scariest night of the year. Composer Douglas Pipes (Monster House) fashions a wonderful, classic horror/gothic orchestral score to compliment this acclaimed new frightfest, which chronicles several ghoulish tales as they unfold against the chilling backdrop of Halloween night.

Score available from Amazon.com and La-La Land Records. ]]>

Warner Bros. Home Video has released Red Dwarf: Back To Earth, which takes
place after "Series-X".

It was a long time coming, but finally the crew of the Red Dwarf were reunited
or what could be the last time with Back to Earth. And it proved to be a bit of a
mixed blessing, with all three parts throwing up moments of absolute genius,
alongside parts where you couldn’t help believing that its best days are far
behind it.

The idea behind the show is quite ingenious. Back to Earth takes place after the
supposed season 10 of Red Dwarf, and the crew find themselves thrown through
a portal, at which time they realize that they’re all just characters from a TV show.

Furthermore, they’re characters from a TV show who are going to all buy it in the
final episode. The only solution? To track down both the actors that play them
(including a trip to the set!), and the creators of Red Dwarf itself.

This opens the door for plenty of postm

odern gags and situations, but arguably
it’s only when things get back into more familiar territory that they start to gel
a little more. And when they work, you can’t help but enjoy the fact that the crew
are back together. Will this be the last voyage for Red Dwarf? Quite possibly, and
there’s little doubt that it’s far from the show’s peak. But it’s still a fun and
entertaining send-off.

Available on DVD and Blu-Ray from Amazon.com.

Ennio Morricone's Baarìa

<![CDATA[ Image Music has released the score for Baarìa. The name is Sicilian slang for BAGHERIA where Tornatore was born and this is an autobiographic epic of three generations in the Sicilian village where he was born. A red carpet event of major proportions. First time in 20 years that an Italian film opens the prestigious Venice Film Festival. The expectations were palpable. There are many wonderful moments and it's a treat to see dozens of Italian stars making very brief cameos in a beautiful reconstructed city. So, Tornatore and his major collaborator Ennio Morricone are heading back to Oscar land. We wish them luck. A 30 million dollars movie, 2 hours and a half long, directed by Giuseppe Tornatore, starring Roaul Bova, Monica Bellucci, Margaret Made', Francesco Scianna, Angela Molina, Gabriele Lavia, Michele lacido, Lina Sastri and many others.

Clint Mansell's L'Affaire Farewell

<![CDATA[ Colosseum Records has released the score for L'Affaire Farewell. In 1981, Colonel Grigoriev (whose name in real life was Vladimir Vetrov) of the KGB, who was disenchanted with what the Communist ideal had become under Brezhnev, decides he is going to change the world. Discreetly, he makes contact with a French engineer working for Thomson in Moscow and little by little passes on documents to him - mainly concerning the United States - containing information which would constitute the most important Cold War espionage operation known to date. The Berlin Wall would fall before the end of the 80s. In his own way, «Farewell» managed to change the world, by avoiding traditional espionage methods too well known to the KGB and by not asking for any financial compensation whatsoever – much too capitalist for his taste. He simply followed his destiny, so that a new world might dawn for all his fellow Russians, but especially for his son. Clint Mansell provides a powerful score for this tale.

Available as download from Amazon.com and Amazon UK. Available on CD from Amazon France and Amazon Germany.

Marty O'Donnell's Halo 3: ODST

<![CDATA[ Sumthing Else Music Works has released the original score for the video game Halo 3: ODST. The story: the Prophet of Regret jumps into slipspace which causes an EMP and a huge shockwave that greatly damages New Mombasa. As an Orbital Drop Shock Trooper (ODST) you travel through the ruins of New Mombasa to find your missing squad members. The music is written by Marty O'Donnell. "The jazz elements are expertly layered in between epic drums and smooth, ambient orchestrals. Nothing feels out of place when it comes up." says an experienced video game player. "All crescendos are built up to and emotional, and all of the low ambient parts perfectly set a mood. This music is perfect for me seeing as I'm a writer as it never gets in my way, and always keeps me moving forward. I also play lots of role-playing games (the pen and paper kind) and this is the best background music for any scene. I highly recommend this soundtrack to anyone looking for good music!"

New from Digitmovies

<![CDATA[ Digitmovies has released volume XIV of the series dedicated to the Italian peplum by releasing for the very first time the complete score for the movie L’Assedio Di Siracusa (Archimede) (aka Siege Of Syracuse) directed in 1960 by Pietro Francisci. At the time of the Punic wars when the conflict between the Roman Consul Claudio Marcello and the Syracusans is gradually getting stronger, a great man appears among the ranks of the Syracusan warriors: Archimedes. With his brilliance and inventiveness, and thanks to his burning mirrors, Archimedes destroys the Roman ships which have besieged Syracuse. Angelo Lavagnino’ s symphonic score perfectly combines the two worlds of Archimedes: the really documented historical facts and his private life where his affection is divided between the two beautiful women Diana and Clio.

Digitmovies continues to travel through the wide musical prairies of the Italian Western by releasing for the first time the complete score for the classic Italian Western of 1968 Oggi A Me... Domani A Te! (aka Today We Kill, Tomorrow We Die) directed by Tonino Cervi. After having completed a long sentence, Billy Kiova wants to take revenge on Elfego, the man who murdered his Indian wife and framed him for the murder. Elfego in the meantime has become a ferocious ringleader. Kiova hires four pistoleros including O'Bannon and Colt Moran and he leads the band for the hunting of the bandit. Legendary composer Angelo F. Lavagnino has written a really essential, minimalist style score made up of suspended, magical, mysterious and semi-psychedelic atmospheres performed by organ, vibe, guitar, brass and every type of percussion with a sparse, but effective orchestra performance.

Austin Wintory's Captain Abu Raed

<![CDATA[ BuySoundtrax Records has released Captain Abu Raed, featuring music composed and conducted by Austin Wintory for the 2009 drama written and directed by Amin Matalqa and starring Nadim Sawalha. Captain Abu Raed tells the story of Abu Raed, an old airport janitor who has always longed to see the world but has never been able to afford the ticket to travel. One day, he meets a group of children in his poor neighborhood who mistake him for an airplane pilot and beg him to share stories of the world outside of Jordan. Through his imaginary stories, Abu Raed makes new friends and learns about the grim realities of their home lives. He is ultimately able to inspire the children and change their lives. For Captain Abu Raed, the director was looking for a Western sound, instead of the typical Middle Eastern orchestral color. The film would need a universally romantic score that would affect an audience in any part of the world. To satisfy this requirement, the director turned to composer Austin Wintory.

Nathan Barr's True Blood

<![CDATA[ Varèse Sarabande has released True Blood. It chronicles the backwoods Louisiana town of Bon Temps … where vampires have emerged from the coffin, and no longer need humans for their fix. Sookie Stackhouse works as a waitress at the rural bar Merlotte’s. Though outwardly a typical young woman, she keeps a dangerous secret: she has the ability to hear the thoughts of others. Her situation is further complicated when the bar gets its first vampire patron — 173-year-old Bill Compton (Steven Moyer, Quills) — and the two outsiders are immediately drawn to each other. Delivering the best of what audiences have come to expect from Creator and Executive Producer Alan Ball (writer of Oscar®-winning Best Picture American Beauty, creator of the Emmy® Award-winning HBO® series Six Feet Under), \True Blood is a dark and sexy tale that boldly delves into the heart — and the neck — of the Deep South. The evocative score — slightly seasoned with regional influence — is composed and performed by Hostel veteran Nathan Barr.

Available from Amazon.com, Amazon UK, Amazon France and Amazon Germany.

Alexandre Desplat's Un Prophète

<![CDATA[ Naïve France has released the score for Un Prophète, the story of a young Arab man, who is sent to a French prison where he becomes a mafia kingpin. Through the mind’s eye of Malik EL Djebena, the first thing we see is a crushing darkness. His immediate surroundings are only perspiring dimly, faraway and dreamlike. Things get clearer as the camera show us the world outside our hero’s mind. Clearer yes, but not a notch brighter: bars, cops, screams, curses, his worn-off lawyer. Malik El Djebena is going to jail for 6 years. We will never know why. Young, boyish looking, illiterate, without any family or relatives, without even someone to call a friend, he is thrown in a maelstrom of violence, intricate power plays, corruption and despair. Alexandre Desplat wrote - again - a fascinating score.

The score is available from Amazon France and Naïve France. ]]>

<![CDATA[ From Varèse Sarabande comes the score for Final Destination. The story: On what should have been a fun-filled day at the races, Nick O’Bannon has a horrific premonition in which a bizarre sequence of events causes multiple race cars to crash, sending flaming debris into the stands, brutally killing his friends and causing the upper deck of the stands to collapse on him. When he comes out of this grisly nightmare, Nick panics, persuading his girlfriend, Lori, and their friends, Janet and Hunt, to leave ... escaping seconds before Nick’s frightening vision becomes a terrible reality. Thinking they’ve cheated death, the group has a new lease on life, but unfortunately for Nick and Lori, it is only the beginning. The film marks the latest in the highly popular Final Destination series, and its first 3D installment, giving horror fans an especially visceral thrill ride. The death-defying score is the latest from Fast & Furious composer Brian Tyler. The album will feature a 13-minute suite recorded just for this soundtrack!

Jérôme Lemonnier's Demain Dès L'Aube

<![CDATA[ Colosseum Records has released the score for Demain Dès L'Aube. The film starts involvingly with a cluster of men in late 18th century military attire preparing for a swordfight in a misty field. The effort expended by the two adversaries, punctuated by the clang of metal, is thrilling. One opponent draws blood.Cut to a contemporary setting in which concert pianist and composer Mathieu is giving a piano lesson in the tasteful salon of the apartment he shares with his wife and young son. After the lesson, he drives to the suburban Paris house where his seriously ailing mother lives with Mathieu’s younger brother Paul. Jérôme Lemonnier about his composition: “There are in Demain dès l’aube (Tomorrow at Dawn) several opposing forces complementing each other: passion and boredom, infancy and adulthood, the real world and the virtual world…The result of these forces is a sort of wandering, an uncertainty, which makes Mathieu an enigmatic and irresolute character. These are the feelings, their evolution and their outcome that I primarily wanted to emphasise using music.”

The score is available from Amazon France, Amazon Germany and Colosseum Records. ]]>

Richard Wells' Mutant Chronicles

<![CDATA[ Silva Screen Records has released the score for Mutant Chronicles, the story of the last mission of the only surviving humans on earth, a hopeless task which ends in bloody failure against an army of Mutants. The visual backdrop of muddy trenches and huge WW1 style weaponry is aided by Richard Wells’ music. Reflecting the ever increasing futility of the mission, the score starts with a haunting melody in the trenches before the mission begins and then becomes ever more discordant as the survivors die one by one until the final violent act, accompanied by a dreadful dissonant cacophony. The thundering, beautifully crafted, orchestral score is the work of Richard Wells, a composer with an impressive track record. He has written music for over 30 video games and made his feature film scoring debut with the cult release Razor Blade Smile. Recent successes include the score for martial arts smash Ong-Bak, hit TV series Being Human and over 50 pieces of original trailer music which include The Grudge, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Internal Affairs.

The score is available from Amazon UK andSilva Screen Records and downloadable from iTunes. ]]>
