Biography
With a contagious energy and inspiring passion for music, Los Angeles based composer, Elik Alvarez, has managed to capture his audience in his unique compositions for the screen. A dynamic artist with roots in classical, rock and Latin inspired rhythms, Elik brings an innovative, down-to-earth approach to each and every project he works on. Pursuing his art with enthusiasm, dedication, and an emphasis on creating an ideal collaboration with filmmakers and fellow musicians, Elik has composed music for a variety of different endeavors.

In 2008, Elik was invited to compose and conduct the music for the full-length documentary, Where I Stand: The Hank Greenspun Story, portrayed by Academy Award winner, Anthony Hopkins. Receiving rave reviews from the Las Vegas Film Festival, this film also won the audience selection award of the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival.

Soon thereafter, he was able to show-case his creativity when scoring the Venezuelan full-length feature, La Virgen Negra. Elik managed to compile an impressive group of talented artists, including the powerful vocal stylings of singer, Lisbeth Scott, virtuoso Venezuelan cuatro player, Rafael 'El Pollo' Brito, and the vivacious energy of the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra.

His many episodic TV credits include Secrets of Egypt, G.I. Joe Sigma Six, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Yugioh Series, and countless work on various specials featured on the Discovery Channel, such as Shark Week Special, Ocean of Fear: Worst Shark Attack Ever, narrated by Richard Dreyfuss.

Subsequently, Elik was asked to create the music for two short films, In Our Time and Simon Wiesenthal Tribute that are currently on permanent display at the Museum of Tolerance in LA and NY. In addition, Elik has scored national ad campaigns, including the popular World Cup soccer ad for McDonalds as well as composing the music for Nintendo DS, George of the Jungle and the Nintendo Wii Video Game, Six Flags Fun Park.

Born in 1974 in Valencia, Venezuela, Elik's passion and career in music began at an early age after being inspired by the fervent piano playing of his uncle, which encouraged him to take up formal piano playing himself at age 8. Throughout his teen years, Elik continued to expand his musical talents by taking up the trumpet in his school marching band while composing and playing piano and keyboards for a number of different rock and fusion bands.

To further his musical education, Elik attended Boston's Berklee College of Music where he received several scholarships and awards, including the Georges Delerue Award, for his outstanding achievement as a Film Scoring Major. In 2000, Elik graduated with the highest honor, Summa Cum Laude, and was chosen to compose and conduct his own music with a 48 piece orchestra at the awards ceremony for the Professional Writing Division.

After concluding his studies at Berklee, Elik relocated to Los Angeles where he was quickly called on to write music for numerous film and television projects, including Warner Bros. Pictures, Yugioh! The Movie, Disney Channel's, The Proud Family Movie, Kirby Right Back at Ya!, Shaman King and many other projects that would build his reputation as a talented composer.

In 2003, Elik Alvarez added to his credits by agreeing to be the liaison for a massive collaboration between the Venezuela Symphony Orchestra and Envisage Entertainment, in which he wrote, arranged and conducted music for Lions Gate animated film, Lil' Pimp, in Caracas, Venezuela. While in Venezuela, Elik lead the prestigious orchestra in a selection of musical compositions being recorded for The Caracas Sessions, including a tribute to Academy Award winner composer, Georges Delerue, as well as an arrangement for flute, Venezuelan cuatro and orchestra for Simon Diaz' Sabana.

Elik was granted permanent residence in the United States in 2004, based on his high achievements and impressive abilities and contributions as an artist. Currently he resides in Pasadena, California with his other passion; his wife Saharai and their son, Gabriel.
