During the 80's (and beyond, I suppose) there are any number of soundtrack releases that were a bunch of mostly non-related songs added to the actual film music to enhance the saleability of the LP/CD/Whatever. In most cases, these non-related songs are rubbish and add little to nothing to the end product. While the songs added to this soundtrack only show up in passing (with the exception of Phil Collin's title track) there are some very interesting choices, including the wildly underrated track by Kid Creole and the Coconuts, "My Male Curiosity". Throw in a couple of solid tracks from Genesis alums that you can't find anywhere else, and the first side is actually worth seeking out. I'll admit I don't have any use for the Stevie Nicks song. And not much use either for the title track, which was the beginning of the descent into schmaltz by Phil Collins, who had just recently come off two great solo releases (Face Value and Hello, I Must Be Going) and the great Genesis record Abacab.

But I digress - even with the fabulous track by Kid Creole, it's the second half that really works well. The score features music by long time L.A. session player Larry Carlton and Michel Colombier. Moody, atmospheric, at times rocking, it features excellent guitar work by Carlton. This music carried along a so-so movie. Of particular note is "Murder of A Friend", although you really can't go wrong with any of the C/C tracks.
