One of Silvestri's best pieces by Michael Longstreet (December 5, 2006)
"The Mummy Returns" failed as a movie (in my opinion), but the music from the film was fantastic. My favorite tracks on this CD are "Evy Kidnapped," "My First Bus Ride," and "Medjai Commanders." These all have the great melodic theme that drives the film from start to finish, almost making you forget the bad CG work on the Scorpion King character near the end of the film. Silvestri's work is almost disguised here. Using his typical riffs and orchestrations on the 'Back to the Future' trilogy and the 'Predator' films, you can definitely tell a Silvestri score, but with this film, that simply isn't the case. Alan Silvestri does a great job of making the music sound fresh and unique. The overlying theme that persists throughout the film can either be sweet and melodic (as in "Medjai Commanders") or it can be driving and action filled (like with "My First Bus Ride" and "Evy Kidnapped"). I found this overall the best part of the score.
