One of the greatest soundtracks of all-time
by a soundtrack collector (July 21, 2003)
There are several reasons I call this an all-time great. First and foremost, it features the songs from the movie, with the same vocals and orchestrations from the movie -- something very few soundtracks can boast ("Grease" is one of the only exceptions). In addition to the songs that appeared in the film, they opted to put the ones that hit the cutting room floor on the album. Songs like "Frank Mills," "Air," "Abie Baby," and others were all trimmed from the film yet appear here, as well as entire versions of "Ain't Got No," "Walking in Space," and "Donna," which were all slightly trimmed in the film.

The stellar cast give fantastic performances, and the album boasts the late Nell Carter, giving some of her greatest vocal work. Other standouts include Beverly D'Angelo ("Good Morning Starshine"), Treat Williams ("I Got Life") and Cheryl Barnes ("Easy to Be Hard" -- whatever happened to her?).

The original cast album was rough around the edges, but this variation is very polished, featuring far superior orchestrations and vocals. Hell, many of the songs are better versions than the ones that become popular radio hits in the '60s (i.e. "Good Morning Starshine" and "Hair"). Despite the fact that the film is somewhat lacking in direction and tone of the original play, the soundtrack shines as a true classic.

Do not buy!
I just bought this CD, thinking that it was the original musical soundtrack, however, it's from the movie. Normally, this would not be a problem, however, this music is awful! It's nothing like the original (same songs, but completely different versions). The singers are poor, as well as the interpretation. Buy the musical soundtrack instead.

A Work Of Art
I can still remember the day I went to see Hair at the movie theater. It has remained my all-time favorite movie. I have the video, dvd and the soundtrack and I still cry every time I watch it. Now my children enjoy the movie as much as I do.

Best musical in the overall category.
Despite the fact that I am a hard-rocker, Hair is my favourite musical. It SMOKES Tommy, The Wall, and any other one you might imagine. If it was not enough a set of great beautiful songs, they are part of an unforgettable film, which should make your eyes wet. But you know that, you've seen the movie. Haven't you?
