A Masterpiece by Brandon Moore (July 22, 2001)
Jerry Goldsmith always says his score to Islands in the Stream is his favorite. The score is powerful and one of the composer's more emotional and personal works. The opening horn theme for the main character of Thomas Hudson (George C. Scott in an incredible performance) is appropriately melancholy and one of Jerry's best. The music matches the film so well, directed by the late Franklin J. Schaffner almost entirely in a dreamlike state. Islands in the Stream contains some of the most music Goldsmith wrote for a Schaffner film. The album is a rerecording and is wonderful to listen to outside of the film. It's a shame that this film is rarely seen today - one of Goldsmith and Schaffner's finest.
