  The Avanz Records Release.......

I have recently rediscovered the joys of Ennio Morricone; unfortunately it is a bad time to have done so. For the last couple of years, I have been really busy and really poor. That means I have missed just about everything that has been released, including the countless limited editions which are sold out and $100 each now. This brings me to "...E Per Tetto Un Cielo Di Stelle." I fell in love with the secondary theme (which is performed by whistler and banjo) while researching different releases (I was humming it for days afterwards). The score is great: featuring the catchy theme mentioned above, another lovely whistled theme, plenty of folk based material, and some wonderful "showdown" music. It features all the elements of Morricone's other efforts in the genre and is a solid work that will delight fans of his western scores. The Avanz release was less (although by no means inexpensive!) than a used copy of the Hexacord release. This version combines the original Cometa LP version (including four tracks form three other films) with 22 "outtakes" for "...E Per Tetto." The sound on the first 10 tracks is a bit gritty, but the from then on the sound is pretty good. The remaining cues do switch abruptly from stereo to mono (in one instance, in the same track!) and there are no notes or information in the packaging. I'm not sure I would get another recording from the Avanz label, but I'm glad I have this one.
