Tranquillo Posto Di Campagna, Un
by Dominic Mann (May 21, 2006)
This Avant garde offering is a decidedly uneasy listen not helped by poor mastering. Fans of Morricone's later score Gli Occhi Freddi Della Paura and John Zorn will undoubtedly thrill to the discordant shrills on offer. For the casual fan of Morricone who knows only The Mission etc, this is one soundtrack you should side step. But, as with all Morricone scores there is something to be scavenged, on this it's a 34 minute suite. A mad, cartoony free for all composed and performed by The Gruppo Di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza (includes Ennio) - whistling, female voice (presumably Edda D)...ok so the really good bit is at the beginning but it is really good. What of the rest? Well, judging by the ferocity of the playing and the insane sounds produced, I don't think the instruments were used again for anything but fire wood. For completists it's obviously essential, but I doubt there will be many who'll want to hear this more than once.
