Maestro MARIO NASCIMBENE's La Prima Notte Di Quiete was for a long time the top title in my wantlist, until I finally managed to get it and since then it has become for me one of the points of reference when I think of a fine, beautiful jazz score, if not the best one of them all. The 1972 movie featuring Giancarlo Giannini is accompanied by this mixture of mellow jazzy tunes, alternating with more dynamic ones, always staying in the jazz pool though, which is a good thing because htis gives a more solid and a more distinctive identity to this particular recording. The muted trumpet is perhaps the 'voice' we hear most on this recording and is superbly played by none less than Canadian jazz trumpeteer Maynard Ferguson, along a very fine use of sax, featuring another phenomenal player, none less than by Gianni Basso. Roberto Pregadio helming the orchestra as conductor is the finishing touch to guarantee a top notch record, very rich in emotion and moods. Defnitely one of the milestones in jazz film music, nothing less than 5 out 5 would be utter blasphemy. Buy it if you find it, it's worth till your last penny!
