    Terrific sci-fi action score,
by Alex (December 26, 2007)
Early James Horner is still one of his best in the science fiction genre. The main theme is a big, bombastic and highly thematic motif that you'll be whistling for years to come. Action music is abundant, cleverly weaving minimalistic electronics into the orchestration. Vibrant strings, harp and oboe color the warmer thematic points, such as "Nanelia and Shad", while some of the bigger, bolder moments--"Cowboy and the Jackers" in particular--display impressively colorful variations on the main theme. Horner even employs a restrained yet plaintive love theme ("Love Theme") and the final cue, "Finale and End Credits", round off the score as best one can hope.
Though this score will never share the throne of William's "Star Wars" or Goldsmith's "Star Trek", it is nonetheless an impressive, fun, memorable listen. Definitely recommended.
