A reView To A Kill

This is without any slightest doubt the best James Bond score ever composed. John Barry at his action music best! Everything about this release is simply perfect. Not too many scores can be enjoyed on their own (especially scores that are 'scene-specific') but his one works out on record just as much as it does on screen, if not more. We have the fittest and most varied James Bond score to date here, thrilling action cues, suspense motifs and simply the most beautiful James Bond love theme ever (also one of Barry's finest love themes for the matter) and in my opinion this is actually one of the few James Bond scores that not only has a decent song but actually a great song! The title track A VIEW TO A KILL (co composed with fellow Brits DURAN DURAN) is simply smashing and you really won't mind listening to it twice; as both opening and closing track! (Especially if back in the 80's you were in your teens) It's an extremely pleasurable listening experience! Definitely a real must have for all lovers of the genre and BARRY aficionados. Five out of Five and a big BRAVO MAESTRO BARRY!

BARRY'S BEST BOND
by
Branko LaRusso (February 17, 2003)
Unquestionably, one of my favourite James Bond movies and the same can be said with regards to the fantastic John Barry score. "A View To A Kill" possesses the melodic qualities, style, panache and a pulling power that quite frankly in my opinion not many James Bond scores possess.

The soundtrack is basically faultless but for one exception- it should have been longer in duration. It has left me with an insatiable appetite for more. Also, numerous beautifully written pieces, unfortunately for one reason or another have been omitted from the soundtrack, for example (The Teaser) - The piece in which 007 escapes to the fake motorised iceberg waiting for him and then precedes to being "entertained" by special agent Kimberley Jones, a short but beautiful piece of music (left out).
The score has a very pleasant feel to it, or a good flow, in a way that no other John Barry "Bond score" has had possibly since "On Her Majesty's Secret Service". It's just a shame that John Barry had to leave his best for last.

The Main Title song by Duran Duran is without question a classic in every sense of the word and starts the album with a bang, leading us gleefully to such beautifully written pieces as "Snow Job" and the monumental "May Day Jumps" with its powerhouse horn section, leaving us in awe as May Day does her perilous leap from the Eiffel Tower.
"Bond Meet's Stacey" is a beautiful romantic variation on the "A View To A Kill" theme and is one of the highlight's of the score and this piece does enhance the score, no-end. These are just a few examples of what is on the album. The rest of the album is as equally as good and has the flair that makes the soundtrack what it is - a treasure.
I have most of the James Bond soundtracks and enjoy all of them but none gets more of a workout than, "A View To A Kill".

The cover artwork (which also deserves a mention) is also absolutely exquisite. A great eye-catching design, I'd go as far as to say one of the best, if not ,the best soundtrack cover art in the series of James Bond soundtracks.
