    Brilliant,
by Alex (August 21, 2007)
I own this on the Intrada disc that also contains Band's score to "House on Sorority Row". Both are rich orchestral works, but of the two "The Alchemist" is truly the best. This is one of Richard Band's best scores; the main theme is a brilliant piece for a very full ensemble with tinkering percussive sounds to augment it. It's a gorgeous theme; one would never know it was written for a horror film! The entire score is a unique spectacle, and virtually every track incorporates this theme into itself. This is a brilliant score, and like some of Richard Band's other orchestral scores--Mutant, From Beyond, Troll, The House on Sorority Row, Ghost Warrior, and The Day Time Ended--I can't help but scratch my head and wonder why this guy never made it big, and today just does synth scores for video games and TV shows. The fact that this score is being released yet AGAIN by Intrada, this time with Band's score for "Zone Troopers" (never heard it) accompanying it is a tesament not only to this scores greatness but also Band's popularity amongst film score collectors. Brilliant work. More please!
