Really beautiful,
by Alex (September 4, 2006)
"Lifeform" may be a low-budget film, but it has many highlight, Kevin Kiner's often excellent score not the least of them.
I am a little warry about reviewing a score that I can only base off of what I heard in the movie, but Kiner's work here is too good not to comment on.
The music in the film is derived from two motifs: A militaristic march with heavy drums and brass and sweeping strings, and a theme for the alien. This theme, with its evocative violins and subdued horns, injects the viewer with a sense of wonder, and explodes into a dazzlingly beautiful, fully-orchestrated cue near the end (heard twice no less). This cue is sad, gorgeous, and breathtaking. Excellent work from a composer with a lot of obvious talent. Like the film, Kiner's score is ten times better than most other scores produced for films with equal or larger budgets of this genre. I'd sell my soul to own this on CD.
