The Rocketeer; Heroic Horner does (did?) it again
by Graeme Watson (September 29, 2006)
I remember well, how when I watched this film, I would love to get the soundtrack. However, in 1992, the internet wasn't invented yet. Nearly 14 years later I tracked it down.
I'd say it has three main themes; that of the Rocketeer (Cliff Secord), Jenny Blake, and the villian Neville Sinclair. These themes are intertwined during particular tracks to good effect, as heard in the film. Also included are the Cole Porter tracks as heard in the film, when Jenny meets with Neville. There is heroism and romance to be found in the Rocketeer's and Jenny's theme, while Neville's is quite sinister.
As is usually the case with James Horner, there's a degree of Star Trek 2 to be found here.
Although the film wasn't a massive hit, despite being rather a lot of fun, this music could be enjoyed by any fan of Horner, or the film, or quite simply someone who likes a good old fashioned heroic film score.
