The Battle Begins
by Godwin Borg (February 6, 2005)
Quite frankly I have not seen this movie yet but if it is as good as it's score I am rushing to the rental shop immediately. Carter Burwell delivers a really neat, æstethialy beautiful and very sober score for THE ALAMO. Nothing too pompous, pretentious or fancy, but rather a cosntant and very neat buildup. Seems to me like he goes deeper into the characters of the film; their psyche, the music says how these people are feeling, something I like very much. The inclusion of celtic melodies was really appropriate, as also the inserts say. A very untypical score for tis kind of film. Bravo Carter! Some movements remind me a bit of Carter's own THE JACKAL, (no ripping off, mind you) but I don't mind, especially considering nobody has yet bothered release it (THE JACKAL) yet. What a shame! Burwell fans like myself, will just love this. Buy it if you have not already done so, you will not regret it.
