A MASTERPIECE OF AVANT GARDE
by a soundtrack collector (November 15, 2005)
This score is a jewel in the crown of film music.
John Corigliano's achievment is in my personal opinion one of the most outstanding film scores ever written.
A creation of avant garde excellence, this music is the perfect musical background of Ken Russel's unique movie.
A score so complex and brilliant that i stands on its own as one of the great moments of the musical history of the 20th Century.
Corigliano's inspiration streams from the works of Bella Bartok and Edgar Varese mostly. The utilisation of electronic special effects and especially the manic percussion sessions of the cues are brilliantly crafted. There are moments of absolute perfection in composition and orchestra conducting such as the Mushroom rite sequence, one of the greatest music and vision compositions i've ever seen.
I only hope that this brilliant man will soon give us another great film score after his wonderfull works for ALTERED STATES, REVOLUTION and THE RED VIOLIN.
