Feel the infection course through your veins! by Steve May (January 24, 2008)
Okay - a long time ago - well 4 years ago to be exact - there was a horrible frenzy as to how the new take on Dawn Of The Dead would come across. Would it be a vile rehash or just another remake left in the bargain bin of every Virgin megastore?
Well here is the thing! The film itself is graphic (which pleased the gorehounds) and is well up there alongside Tom Savini's 1990 remake of NOTLD! The score however....
We are all used to the Goblin score and now the incidental Trunk release of De Wolf cues. But how does Tyler Bates manage to pull this one off???? Well i'll tell you:
HE IGNORES WHAT HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE AND MADE IT HIS OWN!!!!!
From the eerie tones of Luda's Transformation to the depth and fantastic percussion featured in Chainsaw to the Breast Bone - it is a VERY RARE treat to write a score for a re-telling (or as some may call it - REMAKE which clearly it's not) and to TRULY pull it off. This is a milestone (for the genre) and Mr. Bates does exceed expectations. It compliments a good film and makes it better (Just think of what Star Wars would be without William's music and change context)
Now, this was a strictly limited pressing for industry promotion and now (I CAN CONFIRM) that these discs are no more (I can guarantee you - I had one of the last few copies available - SHOW OFF). Beware of bootlegged versions floating around on Ebay that contain the score and other tracks heard in the film.
A great addition to any soundtrack collection and if you own the scores to either Halloween (2007) or The Devil's Rejects - THEN YOU KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT!
I treasure my two *ORIGINAL* copies - Ahhhhhh - Bliss!!!!
