  Good, but not great

John Williams’ score for Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is not nearly as good as the music from the previous three films. There are several tracks that are quiet and hard to hear, with only slight cues little going on.
Williams still uses the staple Indy themes in “Raiders March,” “Finale,” and “The Journey to Akator.” The album highlights are “The Adventures of Mutt,” “Temple Ruins and the Secret Revealed,” and “Jungle Chase.” It was refreshing to hear the Ark’s theme in the beginning of “The Spell of Skull.” It’s the only place you’ll find it on the album, going all the way back to the series’ initial music.
The album itself is released by Concord Records in the new style that seems to be common, the soft style flip case, most likely because it saves money having to produce the hard plastic backing for the album. I personally don’t have a problem with it.
As an overall piece, I think that it’s good, but it’s not as good as his other works. Williams’ music for The Last Crusade is a better overall album.
