    The magnificent Bavure
by Dorian (June 12, 2004)
This is maybe one of Vladimir Cosma's less known scores, but certainly one of his most interesting. The title theme very cleverly changes harmonica and tenor sax parts (played by J.J. Milteau and M. Gaucher), and with the lissome rhythm accompaniment, creates something what I call 'catchy theme'. The second, slower and noir-like track, "Substitution", is, together with the title theme, the only content of the original 1980 45rpm single.
Fortunatelly, unlike most of the other reissues of Cosma's old works, L'Inspecteur La Bavure has more tracks on its CD reissue than it originally had in 1980. Three great tracks were added, the gentle "Traffic" and "La Reconstitution" and the big band piece "Big Bavure". They weave the main theme very intelligently and really make those thirteen minutes of listening worth the time. Definitely recommended.
