Shoddy quality
It's been just about 2 years since this soundtrack was (finally) released and thank
you ever so much to Intrada records for such an amazing feat.
It's also well known by now that the sound quality is pretty bad. If it weren't for
Horner's legacy and for the completests out there (such as myself) who pined for
this release for years and YEARS, I don't think this release would have been
greenlit. The sound is GOD AWFUL. Most of the tracks are muffled and the
sequencing of the cues could have been better edited for the album as well.
Intrada is known for their incomparable work on restoring and releasing film scores
in their entirety. Every time a new score is released we get a full on description of
the painstaking labor which went it to each fine production. Intrada is just about the
best there is now.
Unfortunately, the same can't be said for this soundtrack release. It feels like they
didn't even try to overcome the adversities which they faced when finding the
admittedly deteriorating 1/4 inch masters. They were able to restore JAWS 3 to a
better sounding degree. LALA Land was able to restore the damaged tracks of "The
Towering Inferno" to a better degree. Why not this score?
Was it possible that the 35mm stems were available? It certain;y should have
seemed so, as the blu-ray release offers crisp sound.
I just don't get it. What does everyone else think?
