Hans Zimmer score?

After watching Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest last night, I was struck with the thought: "What happened to Klaus Badelt?" Oddly enough, his score is still here, that much is obvious, but where is he? I was dismayed early on when I learned that Hans Zimmer was taking over the music for the second Pirates film, as Hans Zimmer has never been one of my favorite composers. I tend to find his work, with a few exceptions, boring and complacent. In DMC, he has taken most of the well-known music from the first film (a brilliant score by Badelt) and has done little to add to it. Almost all the cues that catch your attention in the film will be Badelt's, with Zimmer's contributions appearing to slip by unnoticed.

Maybe I will feel differently once I purchase the soundtrack and can more clearly hear the difference between the two scores...but maybe not.

At the recent SONCINEMAD meeting in Madrid, Zimmer mentioned that he, in fact, wrote most of the themes for the original score. For Badelt to get the main credit, probably he must have taken Zimmer's thematic material and constructed a score around them.

Zimmer was pleased to be able to spend more time (on this more recent score) expanding and fleshing out his original ideas.

Ahhhh, well then, that is a different story. I was always under the assumption that Badelt did most of the scoring for the first film, not Zimmer. That would definately change my perspective!

Thanks for bringing that piece of info forward.

I also was in madrid and having the opportunity to know small humanity of this composer and his(her, your) great deity, I do not believe myself anything that the topics of klaus badel are his(yours) or of any of 50 negroes who do his(her, your) music to him(her).

Isn't babelfish.altavista.com great?!!!

But yes, apparently Hans did, in fact, compose most of the original's themes. This is made even more apparent by the omission of Badelt's name from anything having to do with the music from Dead Man's Chest (ie: the soundtrack, the end credits, etc.). Although it's interesting to note, as one can read in the end cred's, that SEVEN other composers were given an "additional music" credit, not to mention that there were also four orchestrators!

I personally thought the music as heard (read: used) in the film was good, but the way the soundtrack album was put together left a LOT to be desired (dance mix thing anyone?).

yep, agree with last comment. rest assured the last "track" got literally 2 seconds of air play! why not add another score track from the flick ?
